PDAP Assistance for Wildfire Loss

We are pleased to share with you that the Honourable Larry Doke, Minister of Government Relations announced that the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) will provide financial assistance to grazing lands damaged by wildfires. Farmers and ranchers impacted by the devastating wildfires in southwest Saskatchewan this fall can apply for PDAP assistance.

In order to qualify for assistance, general PDAP eligibility guidelines must be met which include:

·         Damages must have occurred in a rural municipality that has been designated as eligible for PDAP assistance.
·         The annual gross revenues for the agricultural operation must be at least $4,000 but not more than $2.0 million.
·         The operation must have less than 20 full-time employees.
·         Proof of ownership of damaged property must be provided.
·         Income must show income from livestock.
·         Any of the damages incurred by an eligible claimant are not recoverable at law or from another government program.

More information on how to access funding and the application process can be found here: http://www.saskatchewan.ca/residents/environment-public-health-and-safety/access-funding-through-the-provincial-disaster-assistance-program

Fire Permit Season

April 1st to October 31st of every year is wildfire season in the municipality. If you are planning to light an outdoor fire of any kind, excluding a fire pit, burning barrel, smudge, incinerator or any fire less than 1m in diameter, you must fill out and sign a permit to burn.

Permits are available at the RM Office, from designated Fire Chiefs, or click the link to the right.

All permits are void when a Fire Ban is in effect.

If you are within 3 miles (4.5 km) of a Provincial Forest, you must apply for a burn notification number with Saskatchewan Ministry of Enviornment. The number to call is 1-306-426-2600. Exemptions from burn notification numbers are the same as the RM exemptions.

You can access their website by clicking the link below.
